At Glassons sourcing our textiles responsibly remains our focus.
Over the last 3 years we have been working hard to ensure these textiles have verified environmental improvements, with transparency and certification at the forefront of this.
We have aligned ourselves with globally recognised certifications to ensure our sustainability journey is genuine.
Our product sustainability strategy has been built around 6 main product categories that aim to overarch our product ranges and we are committed to using the most respected textile certification programs available.
These categories have been identified as, Recycled, Traceable, Planet Conscious, Organic, Vintage and Upcycled.
Recycled Fibres
Using Recycled fibres decreases the production of virgin raw materials, and helps divert waste from going to landfill, lessening the dependency on fossil fuels. Global Recycled Standard (GRS) is our preferred certification program for the sourcing and verification of recycled fibres. We committed to working towards full certification by the end of 2021, however we have not met this target in certain categories and we will continue to update our progress in 2022.

Our recycled polyester, also known as rPET, is obtained by melting down existing plastic and re-spinning it into new polyester fibres. It requires less energy than producing virgin polyester and diverts plastics from going to landfill.
Our Status
We have reduced our reliance on virgin polyester, and we are targeting all polyester to be made from certified recycled fibres.

Our Recycled Nylon, is made from pre consumer fabric waste or post consumer materials like industrial fishing nets. It requires less energy than producing virgin nylon and diverts waste from going to landfill & oceans.
Our STATUS
In 2020 we began reducing our reliance on Virgin Nylon, and in 2021 we moved 81% of our swim range to be Recycled Nylon, and we continue to target all Nylon product to be certified Recycled Fibres.

Recycled cotton can come from end of life clothing or from textile waste which is then spun into new yarns. Using recycled cotton reduces the production of virgin cotton and the reliance on resource intensive conventional cotton farming.

Our cotton certification mix has changed considerably in 2021, with the majority of our cotton jersey moving to be organic. Where we have recycled cotton, our preferred certification is Global Recycled Standard (GRS).

TRACEABLE FIBRES
The traceability of our natural fibres is fundamental to our responsible sourcing practices at Glassons. Traceable Fibres are those that we can trace back to the source. We have aligned with some of the world's most valued certification groups that focus on sustainably managed fibre

Our Linen fibres within our Linen blend fabrics have been sourced from Western Europe and certified by EUROPEAN FLAX ®. The linen fibre content is fully traceable back to farms in France, Belgium and the Netherlands. EUROPEAN FLAX ® fibre culture has low impacts on the environment: no irrigation, no GMO (genetic modifications) and no waste. Our viscose fibre is sourced from responsibly managed forests.

All of our 100% Linen continues to be EUROPEAN FLAX ® certified.

Our certified Viscose fibres are certified LENZING™ ECOVERO™ and come from renewable wood sources using an eco-responsible production process. LENZING™ ECOVERO™ fibres are traceable back to sustainably managed forests and have been certified as one of the most sustainable viscose options.

85% of our Viscose continues to be LENZING™ ECOVERO™ certified.
PLANET CONSCIOUS
Our planet conscious category looks at both certification of cotton fibres sourced and eco-friendly processes. There are many elements that go into the production of cotton textiles. We are committed to working towards sourcing organic cotton, you'll see this taking over the Planet Conscious product.

We are excited to have moved our 100% Cotton Denim Rigid range to contain 50% Recycled Cotton and 50% Virgin Cotton. You will notice no difference in the look and feel of our Denim, but we will be making a difference for our Planet. By using 50% Recycled Cotton we are reducing the production of Virgin Cotton. These ranges are produced using Eco Friendly dyes.

Our Organic Cotton Knits are sourced and certified by Organic Content Standard (OCS). This means the raw materials have been grown using methods that have low impact on the environment.

VINTAGE
As part of our sustainability journey to reduce our impact on the planet, we want to bring the revival of relevant trends to our customers through vintage clothing. Each piece is repurposed, reused and then re-loved!

We will continue to source Vintage and Vintage rework to integrate and complement our range.
UPCYCLED FABRIC
Upcycling is the process of generating new garments from left over material. This reduces the burden on landfill and slows down virgin textile production. We recognise the importance of reducing our reliance on virgin materials. In partnership with suppliers we are trying to source discarded fabric as well as off-cuts.

We are working towards Upcycling becoming a significant component of our sustainability journey.
