Labelling and Packaging
At Glassons we recognise that sustainable business practices are fundamental, as we aim to minimise our impact on our environment.
Our main objectives are to REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE.
As a business we have achieved significant reductions across all parts of our operations which we are excited to share with you.
Labelling
-
Last year we changed all main sewn garment labels to be 100% recycled cotton. Our new cotton labels are biodegradable, uncoated and use eco friendly inks.
-
Last year we changed all care labels to be 100% recycled cotton. Our new cotton labels are biodegradable, uncoated and use eco friendly inks.
We have added more sustainable wash care instructions to our new care labels to support caring for our planet.
-
Last year we changed all swing tickets to be sourced from responsibly managed forests (Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)) certified card. This card is biodegradable, uncoated, and uses eco friendly inks.
-
A Kimble is the component that connects the swing ticket to the garment. Last year we changed to use recycled plastic for our Kimbles.
Packaging
-
To ensure your items reach you in perfect condition, we need to ensure they're protected. In our industry there are no perfect solutions, but there are better solutions. We feel that compostable is the best option at this current time to replace single use plastic. We have made the decision to use home compostable for all polybags needed, this means we will have removed 90% of all single use plastic bags from across our business.
Our STATUS
In September 2020 we began transitioning our current poly bags to be compostable.
-
After a lot of research, last year we launched our partnership with Better Packaging co. and their fully certified home compostable courier bags. Instead of using plastic made from fossil fuels, compostable plastics are derived from renewable materials like corn, cellulose, soy protein, and lactic acid.
Our Target
100% of our courier bags are compostable.
Certification
Our compostable courier bags are certified to the Australian AS 5810-2010 standard. This is the only certification that verifies no toxic effect on earthworms.
Partnership
BCollected is the Better Packaging Co's Product Stewardship Scheme. The key to creating a circular, sustainable economy is collaboration. Understanding that not everyone has a home compost, this network is a simple and easy way for local communities to pool resources for the good of the planet.
Why
Because we love that compostable plastic will break down entirely into its nutrients and natural substances in a typical compost bin.
-
We have moved all our bubble wrap, to wrap our fragile items like jewellery or hairclips to ensure they arrive to you in good condition, to be compostable, supplied from Better packaging company.
-
Our swim hangers are made out of recycled plastic which we also recycle. If you don't want to use the hangers at home please return them to your local store so we can ensure they're recycled again for you.
