Labelling and Packaging
At Glassons we recognise that sustainable business practices are fundamental, as we aim to minimise our impact on our environment.
Our main objectives are to REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE.
As a business we have achieved significant reductions across all parts of our operations which we are excited to share with you.
LABELLING
-
This year we changed all main sewn garment labels to be 100% recycled cotton. Our new cotton labels are biodegradable, uncoated and use eco friendly inks.
-
This year we changed all care labels to be 100% recycled cotton. Our new cotton labels are biodegradable, uncoated and use eco friendly inks.
We have added more sustainable wash care instructions to our new care labels supporting caring for our planet.
-
This year we changed all swing tickets to be sourced from responsibly managed forests (Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)) certified card. This card is biodegradable, uncoated, and uses eco friendly inks.
-
This year we changed to use recycled plastic for our Kimbles. A Kimble is the component that connects the swing ticket to the garment.
PACKAGING
-
In our industry there are no perfect solutions, but there are better solutions. We feel that compostable is the best option at this current time to replace single use plastic. We have made the decision to use home compostable for all polybags needed, this means we have removed 90% of all single use plastic bags from across our business.
Target
In September 2020 we began transitioning our current poly bags to be compostable. You'll see them in full circulation by January 2021.
Certification
Our compostable poly bags are certified to the Australian AS 5810-2010 standard. This is the only certification that verifies no toxic effect on earthworms.
Why
Because we love that compostable plastic will break down entirely into its nutrients and natural substances in a typical compost bin.
-
After a lot of research, we are excited to launch our partnership with Better Packaging co. and their fully certified home compostable courier bags. Instead of using plastic made from fossil fuels, compostable plastics are derived from renewable materials like corn, cellulose, soy protein, and lactic acid.

In September 2020 we began transitioning our current courier bags to be compostable. You'll see them in full circulation by December 2020.

Partnership
BCollected is the Better Packaging Co's Product Stewardship Scheme. The key to creating a circular, sustainable economy is collaboration. Understanding that not everyone has a home compost, this network is a simple and easy way for local communities to pool resources for the good of the planet.

Paper carry bags
We began to eliminate plastic carry bags from our stores in 2018 and have converted to paper carry bags. We always offer the customers the choice if a bag is needed and encourage our customers to reuse tote bags where possible.
Cotton tote bags
We offer a reusable cotton tote bag for those that want a reusable option.
