ANIMAL WELFARE POLICY
Animal Welfare is important to HGH Group and we believe all living creatures should be treated with respect. No animals should be harmed in order to make our products.
We support the Five Freedoms recommendations on animal welfare set out by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE).
- Freedom from hunger, malnutrition, and thirst.
- Freedom from fear and distress.
- Freedom from heat stress or physical discomfort.
- Freedom from pain, injury, and disease.
- Freedom to express normal patterns of behaviour.
COMMITMENT
By accepting Glassons Code of Conduct, the supplier commits to comply with Glassons Animal Welfare Policy. It is the supplier's responsibility to assure compliance and to inform all their downstream suppliers and subcontractors about the content of Glassons Animal Welfare Policy.
By accepting Glassons Code of Conduct, each supplier acknowledges that Glassons reserves the right to:
- Inspect and test any product at any stage of production.
- Cancel the order if the product is non-compliant with Glassons Animal Welfare Policy.
- Hold the supplier responsible for any costs associated with recalling or returning a product that is non-compliant.
- All testing to be carried out by Glassons nominated 3rd party.

1. NO FUR POLICY - this includes farmed fur
1.1Glassons is committed to not selling merchandise that contains animal fur. A fur item may be defined as anything made of or containing the actual fur of an animal, including trim. Under no circumstance may a supplier use Fur on any Glassons product. It does not include fleece and shearling or leather and suede. -
2. ANIMAL HAIR and/or FIBRE
2.1Glassons does not accept any hair fibre removed by the process of live plucking.
Animal Fibres - e.g., Wool, cashmere, mohair, or alpaca - must not be obtained from live plucking of animals.2.2In response to the revelations highlighted by PETA in 2013 regarding angora and the process of fibre removal, Glassons have ceased ordering product containing angora.
Under no circumstance may a supplier use Angora Rabbit Fibre on any Glassons product.2.3Glassons does not accept any other hair from animals reared in cages for their hair, including but not limited to rabbit, racoon, fox, squirrel, sable chinchilla, or ferret. -
3. ENDANGERED SPECIES
3.1Under no circumstance may a supplier source raw material from any animal defined as those which appear on the list Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) www.cites.org- 4. FEATHERS AND DOWN
4.1Feathers used for Glassons product must not be obtained from live-plucked birds.4.2Feathers used for Glassons product must not be obtained from force-fed birds used in the production of Foie Gras.4.3Glassons does not accept down or feathers from exotic birds, including but not limited to ostrich.4.4All virgin down used by Glassons must come from farms certified to the Responsible Down Standard (RDS).4.5Glassons promotes the use of recycled down and other innovative material solutions as alternative to virgin down.- 5. LEATHER
5.1Glassons will only accept leather originating from cow, buffalo, sheep, goat, or pig that has been bred for meat production.5.2Glassons will not accept skins from exotic animals or from wild animals, including but not limited to snake, alligator, crocodile, ostrich, emu, or kangaroo.5.3Glassons does not allow leather from Bangladesh due to poor tannery processes in that country.5.4Glassons promotes new and innovative material solutions to be used as a sustainable alternative to leather.- 6. SILK
6.1Glassons does not allow silk originating from Uzbekistan due to high risks of poor working conditions in the silk industry.6.2Glassons promotes new and innovative material solutions to be used as a sustainable alternative to silk.- 7. HORN AND BONE
7.1Glassons does not accept any animal derived horn or bone to be used in our products.- 8. SHELLS, PEARLS AND CORAL
8.1Glassons does not allow coral to be used in any of our products.8.2Glassons does not allow any shell from vulnerable or endangered species.8.3Glassons only allows cultivated pearls.- 9. ANIMAL TESTING
9.1Glassons does not accept animal testing on any cosmetic products, either during production or on finished products.9.2Glassons does not allow any product quality tests to be conducted on animals. - 4. FEATHERS AND DOWN
